Lance Armstrong returns on RED - America's greatest cyclist makes the choice to 'Make the Leap'
Perhaps the biggest story in sports is the return of Lance Armstrong to professional bike racing; equally notable is Lance's 'Leap' to SRAM componentry.
As the greatest cyclist in American and Tour de France history, Armstrong is respected for his victories, feared for his abilities, and renowned for his attention to detail, especially when it comes to equipment. Such attention has defined Armstrong's success, every choice having a specific purpose towards a goal. Even before his return Armstrong had expressed an interest in SRAM, and once the Astana deal was finalized, Armstrong quickly equipped his Trek Madone with SRAM RED.
"SRAM RED is the World's definitive road group for racing and is marked by tremendous innovation. My bike is lighter than ever and is unbelievably responsive; my new SRAM-equipped TREK Madone is the best bike I've ever ridden. I'm certain my SRAM RED componentry will provide me the best chance to win again," said Armstrong.
Armstrong's official race schedule on SRAM RED begins at the Tour Down Under (Jan. 18-25). He will also race the Amgen Tour of California, Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Tour of Trentino, the Tour of Italy, and the Tour de France.
Since launching in 2006, SRAM's road componentry has made a quick ascension to the top, and in 2008 Team Astana rode RED to victory in the Amgen Tour of California (Leipheimer), as well as the Tour of Italy and Tour of Spain (Contador). SRAM RED was launched in the fall of 2007 and remains the World's lightest, most ergonomic, and most efficient road component gruppo. Weight - 1926 grams.

Joe Gambles announced his return to racing in a big way, posting the fastest run of the day in 1:14:57 to successfully defend his Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens crown. Melanie McQuaid continued her strong road-triathlon season, scoring her first 70.3 win and underscoring her early season statements that the grading of the XTERRA World Championships course in Maui meant that it was now little more than a glorified dirt road, which would require a very different approach to training.
